| CPU Tech Wins $45 Million Navy IDIQ Contract for Compatible Processor Upgrade Program
PLEASANTON, California – The Compatible Processor Upgrade Program (CPUP) provides a unique cost-effective solution to obsolescence problems that are plaguing the Navy and other users of complex real-time computer systems such as those found in avionics, weapons and communications systems. Software in such systems can be so complex that it may take years to develop and perfect. But the hardware it runs on becomes obsolete very quickly. Commercial processors, for example, have an average shelf-life approaching 18 months while many computer systems may be in use for 25 years or more. The result, as the system ages, is increasing failure rates, high maintenance costs and the inability to adapt to changing requirements. CPU Tech's Validated Modernization™ makes it possible to insert the latest electronic technology into an existing system to increase reliability, safety and performance with no negative impact on existing proven software. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity firm-fixed-price contract was awarded by the Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (West Bethesda, MD) for the Naval Supply Systems Command (Mechanicsburg, PA). Under this contract, CPU Tech will develop prototype processors to solve electronic obsolescence issues found in many of the Navy's weapons systems. The contract was announced November 19 by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) in Washington, D.C. (see link to announcement below). This program is funded under the Navy's Legacy Productivity effort. Rapid Retargeting, and the Virtual System Implementation Program are the other core programs. According to NAVSUP Program Manager, James Fitzgibbon, "These vital programs address issues that are critical to the Navy's ability to cost effectively maintain its readiness. CPU Tech's advanced technology will help us solve some of the most difficult problems we confront today." Over the past ten years, CPU Tech has invested countless man hours and millions of dollars in a unique automated validation technology that makes it possible for them to provide very high assurance that a processor or a circuit board or an entire system is precisely compatible with another processor, board or system. It is this same design technique that makes it possible for CPU Tech to guarantee its customers binary compatibility and life-cycle support for its ReNew™plug-and-play system-on-a-chip solutions. The Company has numerous patents in the areas of system and processor design and complex system modeling. Its microprocessor development technologies, including configurable processor frameworks, automated compatibility testing and system virtual prototyping, make it possible to provide efficient, affordable and reliable long-term compatible solutions. CPU Tech has been providing advanced microprocessor solutions since 1989 and is headquartered in Pleasanton, California. Its customers include Fortune 500 companies and the U.S. Government.
